Just Watched: Evil Dead (2013)
Wow. I loved it. I can’t even begin to express how much I liked this movie. I like the campyness, I like the identification of terror, I like the gore, I like the characters… I just really, really love this. If you don’t, you’re a dumb butt and I hope none of your friends ever want to play with you again.
In all seriousness, I didn’t know what to expect. I didn’t watch the trailer, I tried not to look at pictures or videos from the movie, I didn’t read any reviews, nothing. I just went in hoping to see a good movie and was very pleased.
The original Evil Dead from 1980 has absolutely no comparison to this movie. Of course, the details like the cabin, the possessions, and the campy lines are there, but as far as quality, characters, imagery, it’s all completely different.
Oh, and Ash Williams? There’s no Ash Williams. Some people are bitching about that from what I’ve seen and I’m thinking, will there EVER be another Ash? Could any remake with a re-casting of Ash ever be worth a shit? No. There will never be another Bruce Campbell as Ash, so why even bother considering that it could happen?
Instead, we don’t get a hero. We get a set of people who are trapped in pure Hell, surrounded by evil and desperate to escape. Does it make sense? No. There’s a lot of shit in this movie that doesn’t make a ton of sense, but it doesn’t HAVE to. It’s a movie. Did Avatar make sense? Did Inception? Did American Pie, for that matter? No. I didn’t go into Evil Dead expecting to see a completely logical film, I just wanted to see maniacal madness and macabre gore. And, you know, I was satisfied.
10/10, would recommend. No complaints, no criticisms, just another great Sam Raimi film that I can’t wait to own on BluRay.

  • This thing is attached to Mia’s soul like a leech. If we want to help Mia… We’re gonna have to kill her.

saw Evil Dead again last night. While everyone else was gasping and screaming, three people actually got up and left in the middle of it saying it was too gross, yours truly was the only one laughing and may I add I was LAUGHING MY ASS OFF. I may have scared a few people myself. This is movie is so fucking great and hilarious. PERFECT.
